Second baseman Freddy Sanchez won the Roberto Clemente Award, which is given annually to the Pirates' most valuable player.
It's the second year in a row Sanchez captured the award, which is presented by the Pittsburgh chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America. The runner-up in was left-hander Tom Gorzelanny.
Sanchez is the first repeat winner since outfielder Brian Giles in 1999-2000.
This season, Sanchez batted .304 with a career-high 11 home runs and 81 RBI. He missed the last week of the season after having arthroscopic shoulder surgery, and sat out the first week of the season while recovering from a knee injury sustained during spring training.
