An emotional Stan Savran signed off the final "Savran on SportsBeat,'' show last night and there were more severe repercussions than the end of the program.

As expected, FSN Pittsburgh laid off four production people whose main job or partial job was working on the show, which debuted as "SportsBeat,'' 18 years ago.

If you missed the final show, or even if you saw it, on his Empty Netters blog, Seth Rorabaugh has posted what he called "A montage of highlights (and a few lowlights)'' of Pittsburgh sports history from the final show. It's well worth the watch (five minutes), and for any sports fan it will be emotional.

Savran signed a new contract to remain with the station in a different role.
